Foundation engineering for SSE and Equinor’s Dogger Bank A, B, and C, developments. From met-mast detailed design, through concept, FEED, and detailed design for monopile foundations for 14 MW turbines.
- Detailed design of met mast flanged connections including ULs and FLS analysis and bolting procedures
- Developed innovative TP-less concepts and evaluated against traditional MP/TP foundation designs
- – Performed FEED engineering with SESAM for global analysis and ANSYS for detailed FEA.

For foundations and offshore substation EPCI procurement on two French offshore wind farms, developing lean employer requirements and contracting strategies for LEMS.
- Led RFP development for foundations EPCI from employer requirements through contractor selection and award
- Transferred to OSS package as deputy manager, coordinating procurement and evaluating contracting strategies
- Developed innovative “lean” employer requirements approach delivering significant cost reductions
- Assessed tenderers and contracting strategies across schedule, cost, and technical performance criteria.
Neart na Gaoithe

Specialist engineering
Support for EDFR’s Neart na Gaoithe offshore wind farm, managing foundations and substation procurement, WTG capacity optimisation, and consent renewal processes.
- Prepared technical scope for Pre-Construction Agreement ITT and evaluated EPCI contractor submissions
- Supported WTG supplier selection and optimised hub heights for consent requirements
- Reviewed foundation contractor design basis, briefs, and concept-level design reports
- Coordinated ILA process and FID timescales across WTG supplier and project technical management.

Provided long-term owner’s engineering support to the Development team for over four years. We seconded people into the project matching their skills and experience to our client’s requirements.
- Built long term relationships with the delivery team to deeply understand the project and help to reduce their costs and risks
- Led WTG substructure design development at FEED
- WTG substructure secondary steel managers through detailed design and fabrication. Including people trained to safely work at height and inspect transition pieces in the yard and quayside
- Managed interfaces between suppliers and package teams.

Providing technical advisory support for RWE’s 1.4GW Sofia offshore wind farm foundation design package, including independent design verification and EPCI contractor oversight.
- Reviewed EPCI contractor’s complete foundation design including primary steel, secondary steel, scour protection, and clustering strategy
- Performed parallel structural modeling and independent design checks covering ULS, FLS, and eigenfrequency analysis
- Participated in Integrated Load Analysis process and Design Risk Assessments as technical advisor
- Benchmarked Sofia foundation design against nearby Dogger Bank projects using Empire’s direct project experience.

Foundations package management for EDF’s St. Nazaire offshore wind farm, developing innovative drilling and grouting installation methods for challenging shallow bedrock conditions in French waters.

Empire led the Value Engineering for the foundations package on both of these iconic RWE projects. Following successful delivering of the Value Engineering scope we were then engaged to perform the Foundations Design Management for the Vanguard East project.
- Reduced project CAPEX by over £100M
- Effectively managed the Foundations Detailed Designer to provide a highly optimised and robust design solution
- Managed the Integrated Load Analysis between the Foundation Designer and WTG supplier
- Managed the key interfaces between Foundations and Transport and Installation.
